The 2011 season is nearly up and running, so I thought I just summarise some of the great events on the calender for this year. I missed the date for the next bulletin so thought I d post it here.
Personally last year was a little frustrating with many niggling issues with the car, the first time we have had any issues since its original restoration. Upon inspection it was clear that some winter loving was urgently needed and the PB has since undergone a complete engine rebuild. At this time I m waiting for my new pistons to be returned to us so we can start screwing it all back together again! Hopefully CLX112 will be back in action for the start of the season!
I really hope that we can continue to build on the entries and interest from within the register. My first two years of competition has been thoroughly enjoyable and I ve met some fantastic people. If any of you are looking for advice or info on events or getting started please do not hesitate to contact me, I look forward to meeting you this season.
Thanks
Mark

If anyone is interested in competing north of the Border, the following hillclimbs have a class for pre-war cars, which I intend to enter:
Doune 16/17 April, http://www.dounehillclimb.co.uk/
Forrestburn 25/26 June (not ideal timing), Forrestburn 27/28 August, http://www.mscc.org.uk/index.htm
Bo'ness 10/11 September, http://www.bonesshillclimb.org.uk/.
Bo'ness is the only one I have entered before, and it was great fun , with a very friendly atmosphere. I have driven the Forrestburn hill untimed, and it is very interesting. All of these require a National B non race licence and the usual helmet, overalls and gloves. Anyone north of the border interested in competing for the first time please contact me for more information. Membership of at least one of the organising clubs will allow entry to all of the above events. No serious mods to the car required to compete. Come along and join in the fun ! Pit your MMM against Vintage and PVT machinery such as Bentley, Alvis, Morgan, Austin &c.

Are you quite sure the Colerne sprint is definitely on this year? I remember reading very recently (somewhere!!) that Colerne had been withdrawn by the RAF as a motoring venue.....

Yes Colerne is off for this year. It's replaced by a sprint at Llandow near Cardiff (a kart track which is not nearly as "forgiving") to be held on 29 Aug. We hope to be back at Colerne in future.

And the latest is.......
Llandow is now off (at least as far as the MGCC SW & Luffield Championships are concerned). The Wessex Sprint replacement will now be at Castle Combe on the 6th August. I had notification from the organisers today, asking all us SW types to spread the word. Regs will be out in early May.

Anyone within striking distance of Cornwall could take part in the Camel Vale Motor Club Castle Hillclimb near Lostwithiel, mid Cornwall on 7th August. See their website for details. More modern MGs use it as a round of their Championship. Stu Evans (J2s) & me (J2slow), plus a few other vintagents are trying out their Pre-1952 Class, which has had few entries in the past. It has been a regular hillclimb venue for years for more modern machines. On Youtube clicking "Castle Hillclimb Cornwall" will take you up, on board a racer.

Brian, I'm tempted.... But CC on the Saturday & then down your way for the Sunday might be pushing the logistics a bit (not to mention the domestics!)

Well it was a good day, despite the lightning and intermittent torrential rain! And I even managed to slightly improve my time from my first duff practice run. Stu Evans went well in his supercharged J. The local enthusiasts were friendly, and maybe we'll have a bigger class next year.
I recommend would-be sprinters and hillclimbers to look local - there may be something nearer to home than they think! And it's often quite cheap.

Brian, I'm glad you enjoyed yourself. I was the only MMM entry at Castle Combe - but at least it didn't rain. I ran with the moderns (up to 1400cc) & as no one was polite enough to spin at least twice on both their timed runs; I was predictably anchored to the bottom of the class. JH |

That's at least 4 of us then - don't get too confident Brian, you could have some stiff opposition!
